If you think you want to try cooking with skewers, there are a couple things you should know. Not all metal skewers are created equal; traditional round metal skewers are not the best option to keep food in place when grilling. Choosing skewers with a different shape can be the secret to keeping your food from the bottom of your grill.

If you are just beginning your adventure with home cooking, look online, at a bookstore, or at the library for a cookbook that has simple, easy recipes that you'll take pleasure in both preparing and eating. Pick out a few recipes to try and decide after it has been eaten if it is a recipe you want to add to your permanent collection. Be sure to be patient as you try these new recipes.

If you are preparing stir-fry, be sure to slice the meat on the bias and very thin. Very often this is difficult to master and takes a lot of time. Remove the meat when it is firm but before it freezes, and cut at an angle of 45 degrees against the grain.

Slowly stir corn starch into simmering sauce to thicken. Combine two tablespoons of water and one tablespoon of cornstarch in a bowl and mix. Stir the mixture into simmering sauce to make the sauce thicker. Make sure you stir your sauce and stop pouring the mix once your sauce looks better.
